Bandung, IDN Times – Want to relax while enjoying works of art? You can visit the Gray Art Gallery on Jalan Braga, Bandung City. Tens of Islamic-themed works are being exhibited here.
IDN Times tried to visit this art gallery to relax, Sunday (18/3/2024). There are many Islamic-themed paintings and calligraphy which are quite amazing and can certainly soothe the heart.
These works of art are displayed in every corner, starting in the hallway, upstairs, downstairs, to the main room. If you want to enjoy dozens of works of art, it will take up to two hours. This length of time is very suitable for spending time relaxing.
1. Hanging out in the gallery is something unique
As did Sabrina (26) and Windi (38). They came to Gray Art Gallery came to this place after walking around Braga Street. While waiting for the call to prayer, the two of them took the time to enjoy Islamic fine arts.
“It’s not bad, while walking around Braga and then coming here, you can look at paintings while relaxing waiting for opening time,” said Sabrina.
This native of Bandung City usually hangs out around the city on weekends. And the Asia Africa area to Jalan Braga is an option for relaxing with friends.
According to him, hanging out in a fine art gallery is an unusual thing. But because the work on display is interesting, it can make people come to this gallery.
“If the work is really good like this, I will also be happy to come and linger,” he said.
2. Hoping for more interesting places to hang out
Windi said the same thing. Even though he doesn’t have an art background, he enjoys coming to fine arts venues. The variety of works available often makes him amazed at the painters or artists who exhibit their work.
“It’s like here, there are also empty paintings. I don’t know what it means, but it’s also a work of art that the artist has thought carefully about,” said Windi.
He hopes that art exhibitions like this can be held in many places in Bandung City. So there are also more places to hang out for residents who are fasting.
3. Presenting 85 works from 75 painters
Art Support Gray Art Gallery Chamid Nur Dwaji said the exhibition entitled Bulan Rising will be held from March 15 to April 19 2024.
Dwaji said that this exhibition had actually been planned since 2023, but was only realized this year. “One year ago Gray Art Gallery tried to initiate this discourse during the month of Ramadan, also to welcome the month of Ramadan, this year we are trying to realize last year’s program and discourse,” he told detikJabar.
According to Dwaji, there are 85 works from a total of 75 artists throughout Indonesia exhibited in this gallery. Even though the majority come from Bandung, in this exhibition artists from outside are also welcome whose work has not been widely published so far.
When asked about genre, Dwaji said that visually and categorized based on genre, there are various types.
“For example, if you look at the visuals of Islamic art, the curator said that he gave tips or limitations to the artists so as not to get caught up in the word Islam, but rather to visualize Islamic values. So, based on the artist’s perspective or perception myself to visualize my own curricular introduction,” he explained.
Dwaji said, quoting a sentence from the quite controversial art observer Asmudjono Irianto, actually what we are doing here is not intended to provide da’wah or understanding to visitors about Islamic art.
“However, indirectly visitors may have that perception, so we will return it to the visitors and appreciate it again if they feel enlightened by what we show at the Bulan Rising exhibition, thank God, thank God,” he explained.
Dwaji added that the operating hours remain constant from 10.00-20.00 WIB and this exhibition is very suitable to visit for hanging out. “Of course ngabuburit, please come to ngabuburit at the Gray Art Gallery,” he concluded.
