Summary
- The Spider-Man universe continues to expand with upcoming movies and TV shows featuring familiar heroes and villains.
- Successful crossovers between Spider-Man actors and multiverses set the stage for exciting future collaborations in the Marvel/Sony universe.
- While some villain spin-offs have had varied success, the enduring popularity of Spider-Man’s universe promises further exploration in upcoming projects.
There are many upcoming Spider-Man movies and TV shows set to follow Tom Holland’s Spider-Man: No Way Home and Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse. After 12 Spider-Man movies, the Marvel Universe is still expanding with the two separate universes now confirmed to be part of the same multiverse, with ties to the MCU timeline. One is led by superheroes and the other is focused on more villainous/antagonistic characters like Venom, Morbius, and Kraven the Hunter. Success for Sony’s Spider-Verse villains has been varied with Morbius and Madame Web tainting expectations somewhat, but Sony show little sign of slowing plans.
In contrast, the incredibly successful Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse movies confirm the enduring popularity of Spider-Man’s wider universe and the potential for further expansion. While Tom Holland’s Peter Parker, Miles Morales, and Sony’s villains like Venom haven’t had the opportunity to interact yet, Spider-Man: No Way Home confirmed that the live-action Spider-Man actors exist in the same multiverse, meaning things are set up for future crossovers. With that in mind, there’s no end to where the extended Marvel/Sony Spider-Man universe could go. Here are all the upcoming Spider-Man movies and TV show spin-offs confirmed as in development so far.

Kraven The Hunter – August 30, 2024
Part Of Sony’s Live-Action Spider-Man Universe
Sony’s Spider-Man Universe will keep expanding with the introduction of another Spider-Man enemy: Kraven the Hunter. Directed by J.C. Chandor, Kraven the Hunter will have Aaron Taylor-Johnson playing the title character, with Christopher Abbott on board to play the main villain, The Foreigner, Alessandro Nivola playing a new take on long-term Spider-Man villain Rhino, and Russell Crowe as Kraven’s father Nikolai Kravinoff. Meanwhile, Ariana DeBose will appear as Marvel Comics character Calypso.
Kraven the Hunter was one of the characters planned to be part of the shared universe that The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was supposed to establish, and after many ups and downs, Kraven is now finally set to make his big-screen debut on August 30, 2024, after being bumped from a January release date. With the release of the first trailer, Aaron Taylor-Johnson teased a future crossover with Spider-Man, tantalizingly hinting at an adaptation of Kraven’s Last Hunt.
Kraven the Hunter
Kraven the Hunter is the fourth movie in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, set in the same Marvel continuity as Tom Hardy’s Venom and Jared Leto’s Morbius. Played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson, the titular Kraven goes on a solo adventure as an anti-hero, this time independent of his comic book counterpart’s crusade to hunt down Peter Parker.

Venom : The Last Dance – October 25, 2024
Part Of Sony’s Live-Action Spider-Man Universe
Venom was the movie that kicked off Sony’s Spider-Man universe, and Tom Hardy’s Eddie Brock and the symbiote are coming back in a third movie. Venom was released in 2018 and even though it wasn’t well-received by critics, it was a box office hit and was welcomed with open arms by the audience, granting it a sequel. Venom: Let There Be Carnage was released in 2021 and got mixed reviews from critics, though once more, it was a commercial hit, if not to the level of the original.
Venom: The Last Dance was then confirmed to be in development a couple of months after the release of Venom 2, with Tom Hardy filming in mid-2023 and confirming a direct connection to the previous movie. Amid rumors of a Spider-Man crossover, or ties to the rest of the Spider-Verse, Tom Hardy offered an intriguing tease in a Venom 3 interview with Screerant, stating: “Once it’s established, we then have to continue our Venom-verse. But at the same time, we will always be looking to campaign to play with that with all the brothers and sisters who are out there, do you know what I mean? Whether we can connect the dots, that’s up to the constellations, and that’s above my pay grade, but we would be remiss not to think about that when we’re working on the material.“
In March 2024, Venom: The Last Dance saw the announcement of its official title – having gone by Venom 3 until then. This was revealed alongside a seemingly final update to the movie’s release date – October 25, 2024 – with the move having been previously set for July 12, 2023, then having been moved to November 2024 for some time after the SAG-AFTRA 2023 strikes.
Venom: The Last Dance
Venom 3 is the third and final installment in Sony’s symbiote trilogy starring Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock. It follows the events of Let There Be Carnage, where the anti-hero fought serial killer Cletus Kasady, and Spider-Man: No Way Home, where Brock was briefly transported to the MCU through the multiverse.

Spider-Man: Beyond The Spider-Verse – TBA
Part Of The Animated Spider-Verse Universe
After capturing every Spider-Man fan’s imagination, Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was announced to be getting two follow-up films, with Across The Spider-Verse breaking the box office record for Sony Animated movies after passing $600m at the global box office. 2024’s Beyond The Spider-Verse follows the events of Across The Spider-Verse‘s ending, with the Spot’s threat to Miles Morales’ family ringing loud and the multiverse mix-up set to be paid off.
Allegations of difficult working practices and a culture of extreme pressure met Across The Spider-Verse‘s release, with reports of 100 artists forced out of the project by creative demands. Those reports also suggested a March 2024 release date is impossible, foreshadowing the release date being changed to an indefinite one. Miles (Shameik Moore), Gwen (Hailee Steinfeld), and a whole host of Spider-Man variants will return, as well as Jason Schwartzman’s The Spot, with an early promise of the sequel visiting new worlds, including Spider-Punk’s home world.
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse
Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is the direct continuation of 2023’s Across the Spider-Verse, and is the third film in the Miles Morales animated Spider-Man franchise. Miles continues his interdimensional journey to change the fates of those he loves while finding his own path to become a Spider-Man.

El Muerto – TBA
Part Of Sony’s Live-Action Spider-Man Universe
The announcement of Sony’s El Muerto project only came in 2022, but was initially an exciting addition to the Sony Spider-Verse slate. In the comics, El Muerto is an antagonist to Spider-Man and has superpowers thanks to the wrestling mask that’s passed down from generation to generation in his family. Musician/actor/wrestler Bad Bunny was in place to play the character, but parted ways from the project in September 2023, with a mooted January 2024 release date was canceled and the movie indefinitely shelved.

Tom Holland’s Spider-Man 4 – TBA
Part Of The Marvel Cinematic Universe
Although Spider-Man: No Way Home seemed to be the end of Tom Holland’s time as Spider-Man, it was announced that Marvel had plans for another trilogy of Spider-Man movies starring Holland, though at that point, Sony didn’t have plans for more of its own movies yet. Not long after, Kevin Feige confirmed that Sony and Disney were actively beginning to develop the story for the next Spider-Man movie, but very few updates have been provided. The MCU’s Spider-Man 4, however, is happening.
The WGA writers strike came as Spider-Man 4‘s initial discussions were confirmed by Tom Holland, who also revealed that Amy Pascal and Marvel boss Kevin Feige were also present. The MCU Spider-Man star also revealed concerns about making sure the fourth chapter justified its own existence, offering a positive update that suggests the story is already taking shape:
“It’s a collaborative process. The first few meetings were about, ‘Why would we do this again?’ And I think we found the reason why. I’m really, really happy with where we’re at in terms of the creative. But I’m also a little apprehensive about it. There’s a bit of a stigma about the fourth one in all franchises. I feel like we hit a home run with our first franchise and there’s a part of me that wants to walk away with my head held high and pass the baton to the next lucky kid that gets to bring this character to life.”
Spider-Man Homecoming 4
Spider-Man: Homecoming 4 is the first sequel to the MCU’s Spider-Man trilogy starring Tom Holland as the titular wall-crawler. After wiping his identity for the public’s memory in Spider-Man: No Way Home, Peter Parker continues his crime-fighting adventures without the aid of Iron Man technology or the support of his former allies.

The Sinister Six – TBA
Rumored To Be Part Of Sony’s Live-Action Spider-Man Universe
One project that has been rumored to be in development for years and that has gone through hell and back is the Sony The Sinister Six movie. The project was initially planned to be a spinoff of The Amazing Spider-Man franchise, but it was eventually canceled. Following the partnership between Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures, interest in a Sinister Six movie arose again, and in 2018, Drew Goddard said his script could eventually be used for a movie, with producer Amy Pascal confirming months later that the studio intends to use it and would like to have him direct as well. With Morbius setting up the formation of the Sinister Six through the appearance of Vulture, news on the development of the movie could arrive soon.
Sinister Six
Sony’s original Sinister Six movie, which attempted to gather Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin, Vulture, Kraven, Rhino, and Mysterio as a team that would cross over with Andrew Garfield’s Peter Parker, was scrapped when The Amazing Spider-Man 2 was met with negative reviews and poor box office performance. The project transformed with the birth of Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, which introduced Tom Hardy’s Venom, Jared Leto’s Morbius, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson’s Kraven the Hunter, who are suggested to join forces with Michael Keaton’s Vulture and another villain to form a new version of the team.

Spider-Women – TBA
Part Of The Animated Spider-Verse
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse was supposed to be getting a spinoff movie centered on three generations of female Spider-related characters, which were later revealed to be Gwen Stacy/Spider-Gwen, Cindy Moon/Silk, and Jessica Drew/Spider-Woman. Although there haven’t been more updates on this project, there are reasons to believe it has been left aside or shifted into a TV concept. More details about it might arrive once Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse is released.

Untitled Olivia Wilde Spider-Man Universe Movie – TBA
Currently Undisclosed
In August 2020, Olivia Wilde was hired to develop and direct a female-centric Marvel movie for Sony along with her writing partner Katie Silberman. The movie has reportedly been a “high priority” at the studio since 2020 and was believed to be a Spider-Woman movie, but there haven’t been any more updates on it.

Live-Action Miles Morales Movie – TBA
Currently Undisclosed
Arguably the most exciting update for fans of the Spider-Verse animated movies came from Amy Pascal in a Variety interview suggesting that Miles Morales will finally get his own live-action movie. When asked about the possibility, Pascal promised: “You’ll see all of it. It’s all happening.” So far, no concrete news has been revealed, but the success of the Spider-Verse movies surely guarantees progress will follow.
Upcoming Spider-Man TV Shows
3
Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man – 2024
While it’s not an upcoming Spider-Man movie, Disney+ will release an animated series titled Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man based on Tom Holland’s Peter Parker in 2024. The series was originally announced as Spider-Man: Freshman Year, but altered its name in December 2023.
The show isn’t a direct prequel to Spider-Man: Homecoming, as it instead simply exists in the same multiverse, but it’s exciting nonetheless. This should provide the Spider-Man origin story that Holland’s Peter Parker never got and will give Disney an opportunity to capitalize on the animated format that has served other Spider-Man projects like Into the Spider-Verse so well.
2
Silk: Spider-Society – TBA
The Walking Dead‘s Angela Kang has been confirmed to be developing another expansion of the Sony Spider-Man Universe for Amazon with Silk: Spider-Society following Marvel Comics’ Cindy Moon. Sony’s Amy Pascal and Spider-Verse executive producers Phil Lord and Christopher Miller will once more return, with hints that Silk could be a spin-off from Across & Beyond The Spider-Verse. Amazon’s plans follow initial news in 2018 that a Silk live-action movie was in the works, but that project went cold before the series was unveiled.
1
Spider-Man Noir – TBA
After Nic Cage’s appearance as the quirkiest Spider-Man variant in Into The Spider-Verse, Amazon’s live-action Spider-Man Noir series was announced in February 2023. Amy Pascal, Lord, and Miller should all return as executive producers for the series penned by Oren Uziel. The WGA strike put the Spider-Man spin-off on hold, with no plot details or casting announced, though it is known that Spider-Man Noir will be set in its own universe separate to the MCU, making Cage’s return improbable at best.
Other Possible Upcoming Spider-Man Projects
Along with the Spider-Women projects, there were some other movies rumored to be in development, but they’ve since gone dormant and may be dead or reworked for television. These are projects centered around Spider-Man villains Black Cat and Silver Sable, Nightwatch, and Jackpot. The last two are especially obscure characters from the comics, so it’s possible Sony has put them on the table but ultimately decided to pursue other titles as higher priorities. Donald Glover has also been attached to a Hypno-Hustler project since December 2022, despite appearing as the Prowler in the MCU and in an Across The Spider-Verse cameo.
